ChartQuest is a game that teaches you about charts and trading. This page explains, in plain words, what information we keep and how we look after it. If anything here is unclear, email us at habitsimulator@gmail.com.
Short version: You can play as a Guest and we keep no account for you. While the game is in beta we do record which parts of the game people reach, so we can see where players get stuck. That record has no name and no email in it. We never sell your information, and we never track you on other websites.
Because ChartQuest is in beta: we count things like "reached the first trade" or "beat the first Guardian". This is how we find out which bits are confusing. It is switched on for everyone, it does not use cookies, and it does not identify you.
What we collect
- Beta progress marks. While the game is in beta we record when you reach each step — tutorial started, first trade, boss fight, Journal found, survey done — plus how long a visit lasted, whether you had been before, and whether the game crashed. Each mark is tied to a random string made up on your device (something like
p-4nb6ad7hgh). It is not your name and it is not your email, and we cannot use it to work out who you are.
- Game-learning events. During the beta we may record practice outcomes, lesson/Guardian progress and compact replay details used to understand whether a teaching moment worked. These use the same random device string, not your name or email, and are visible only in the private ChartQuest dashboard.
- Basic device facts. Whether you are on a phone, tablet or computer, which browser, and the size of your screen. This tells us if something is broken on, say, small iPhones.
- Your beta survey answers, if you choose to fill the survey in. Please do not type anything private into the boxes — write about the game.
- If you make an account: your email address and a password. ChartQuest's account service stores only a strong one-way password hash — never your readable password. Sign-in uses a secure, same-site session cookie; the game does not save your password or a login token in browser storage.
- Your game progress: your level, your in-game "shells" score, your practice-trade journal, notes and daily streak. Account-linked Story progress can be saved to our servers when you are signed in. Trading Lab journals and strategy drafts currently stay in this browser on this device; signing in does not make them sync between devices.
- A count of visits, with no name or email attached.
- Bug reports: if you send one, we keep the message you typed and basic game info so we can fix the problem.
What we do NOT collect
- The game account does not ask for your real name, home address, or phone number. A payment provider may request billing information during checkout.
- ChartQuest does not handle your card number or bank credentials. For a web purchase, Stripe handles payment details on its checkout page. ChartQuest stores purchase identifiers and whether your account has access. In-game "shells" and trades remain pretend and have no cash value.
- No cookies for tracking, and no advertising.
- No following you around other websites. Nothing is shared with advertisers or data brokers, because we do not use any.
- Cloudflare processes your IP address to serve and protect the site. The application’s rate-limit records use keyed hashes rather than a raw IP address. Account and email requests also use short-lived rate-limit counters. This does not mean your IP address is hidden from the hosting provider.
Guest mode
If you play as a Guest, your saved game lives only on your own device, in your browser, and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes it. The beta progress marks described above are still recorded, because they carry no account and no personal details.
Where your information is kept
- Cloudflare — hosts the website and stores accounts, signed-in game progress, beta progress marks, survey responses, bug reports and captured game-learning events. The private results dashboard is restricted to the ChartQuest team. The live game sends all new server data through same-origin Cloudflare services.
- Historical migration archive. Earlier beta/account records may temporarily remain with our previous database provider only while we verify recovery and reconciliation. The production game sends no new account, gameplay, survey or bug-report data there. We will remove that archive after the migration has been verified.
- Account email — the configured email service delivers verification and password-reset links to your address. Treat these links as private; each expires after ten minutes and works once.
- Stripe — handles web checkout when purchases are enabled. We use its purchase and payment identifiers to grant or revoke access; your card details are handled by Stripe. See Stripe’s Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts — delivers the lettering used on the site.
- Public market data — Cloudflare reads public market prices for the game's display. Your browser does not contact those market providers, and we do not send them your information.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and progress for as long as you have an account. Beta records are only useful while we are building, so we delete them once the beta is over.
Your choices
- You can play without an account (Guest mode).
- You can skip the survey. Nothing in the game is locked behind it.
- You can ask us to show you, or delete, anything tied to your account by emailing habitsimulator@gmail.com.
- You can sign out from the account menu. Signing out keeps local progress on that device. On a shared device, choose “Remove device data” to remove the signed-in account’s local Story save, Lab journal and drafts. Other accounts and your original demo remain.
- If your account was moved from the earlier system, you may receive a one-time restore link and choose a new password. The restore code is single-use and is removed from the address bar as soon as the game opens it.
Children and families
ChartQuest is an educational game that younger players may enjoy. We collect as little as possible and never require personal details beyond an email to save progress. Parents and guardians: if you believe your child created an account or gave us information and you want it removed, email habitsimulator@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
